Задача
TO FIND AN UX DESIGNER

Our client is a company that creates and supports additional features and settings for a world-known task tracker. The client was looking for a UX designer and asked us for help. Not wasting a minute, we hit the LinkedIn road.

Among all the candidates we introduced, two got the offer. The question occurred: which one will accept the offer and which one is the company’s priority?

THE PRIORITY CANDIDATE AND OFFER HUSTLE

We found two strong candidates: beautiful portfolios, creative solutions, and complex projects. Both specialists met the requirements for the role, and got the offer, but it seemed that one lady was a better fit, and secretly the client hoped to get her on the team.

We took the client’s wish into account and decided that we can gently push the prioritized candidate towards the offer. At the same time, she got a counteroffer from her own company. We went on and on about the advantages of the new place: a stable team with fascinating work, enough space to get creative, great money, tremandous networking, and powerful colleagues who make you want to grow.

Of course, we were in touch with the second candidate as well but — frankly — didn’t pay as much attention. The client wanted the first candidate, plus the second one didn’t have a counteroffer for us to work on.

And we missed. At the very last second, the first lady accepted the counteroffer and admitted, it was part of her initial plan. She wanted a raise in her own company, not a place in another one.

NOTA BENE: CHECK THE MOTIVATION AND THEN CHECK AGAIN

Unfortunately, no one is safe from some mistakes, and we’re no exception. We failed to see the true motivation at the very beginning and led a person to the very last stage, making her our prime bet.

We fixed the mistake by catching the second candidate halfway to the other offer. The client still got an experienced UX designer. But we’ve learned our lesson — a thorough motivation check is a cornerstone for us.
